FESTIVAL OF ARCHAEOLOGY
The Carpathian Archaeological Festival is a recurring open-air event based on the historical reconstruction and experimental archaeology of the Bronze Age and the early Middle Ages. After a decade, it has built up a reputation in Poland and Europe. Every year, we welcome the reconstructors from Poland, as well as Russia, Lithuania, Slovakia and the Czech Republic.
The festival aims to reconstruct the life of our ancestors. In the warriors’ camp, in the festivals’ gathering area and the archaeological part one may witness everyday-life activities such as making meals, preparing for battle, making and decorating clothing, including those made of leather. The visitors may take part in presentations of various craftsmen of the aforementioned historical times. The Friday evening of the festival is always devoted to the promotion of the event in the market square of Jasło, where the reconstruction groups gather to mark their presence and march across the town. The most spectacular parts of every festival are the tournaments. The final fights of the best warriors always take place on Sunday, just before the award ceremony. The most popular events of the festival are the reconstructions of the battle which take place in the afternoon hours of both Saturday and Sunday. The battle ends with the staging of the cremation of the fallen warrior with all the traditional funerary rites. During the festival, the visitors may enjoy a selection of concerts of old/folk music as well.
