PREHISTORY OF THE SOUTH-EASTERN POLAND. Despite dozens of years of excavation, prehistoric times remain a mystery to people who do not deal with archaeology daily. It is a pity because this period is utterly fascinating. Classes entitled “Prehistory of the South-Eastern Poland” are designed to introduce the participants to the Stone, Bronze and Iron age of south-eastern Poland and bring them closer to the prehistoric achievements of our ancestors.

THE ORIGINS OF THE SLAVONIC PEOPLE (6th c. A.D. – 11th c. A.D.). Who were our direct ancestors? Where did they come from? What did they eat? What did they do and where did they live? And what was their life like in the early Middle Ages? Those questions and many other will be answered during the workshops entitled  “The Origins of the Slavonic People” introducing the participants into the fascinating world of our forefathers.

TOWARDS ETERNITY. FUNERAL RITES ON THE TERRITORY OF POLAND FROM THE STONE AGE TO THE ORIGINS OF CHRISTIANITY. The participants are familiarised with different kinds of funeral rites across the ages as well as various burial traditions of people inhabiting the territory of Poland. Archaeology largely contributes to the understanding of religious beliefs of the prehistoric cultures and sheds light on customs and traditions which are thousands of years old.

INDIANA JONES UNCOVERED. According to a popular opinion, archaeology can be a key to breath-taking adventure, known from the Indiana Jones films or games featuring Lara Croft. Is it the case? Is it worth becoming an archaeologist? This and other questions regarding the profession will be answered during this conversation session with the host. Classes are recommended for people who are interested in archaeology on a professional level or just want to extend their knowledge about the day in the life of an archaeologist.

TROY – THE LEGEND AND REALITY. Troy – a name that evokes emotions not only among archaeologists, history enthusiasts and ordinary people. Has anyone not heard about the Trojan War, Achilles or the beautiful Helen? Classes will introduce the Homeric legend, as well as the results of archaeologic research on the matter. Do the legend and reality have a common ground? What is the connection between Trzcinica and Troy? The participants of the classes will be able to answer those questions and many more.

FARMING IN THE PREHISTORY AND THE EARLY MIDDLE AGES. Nearly 12 thousand years ago in the Middle East, the human advanced from hunting and gathering to farming and cultivating the land. This was a true turning point in the history of mankind. The Neolithic revolution was one of the most significant achievements of humanity. The participants of the classes will learn about the when, why of this event and find out about the activities of the inhabitants of the “Royal Earthworks” hillfort in the field of economy and natural history, in the Bronze Age and the early Middle Ages, based on the archaeological research carried out on the site.
The educational path Rolnictwo w pradziejach i okresie wczesnego średniowiecza (Farming in prehistory and the early Middle Ages) has been subsidized by Voivodeship Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management (WFOŚiGW) in Rzeszów.

NATURE AND PROTECTED PLANT SPECIES ON THE “ROYAL EARTHWORKS” HILLFORT. The „Royal Earthworks” hillfort is an area of great natural history and landscape value. It is rich in protected and partially protected species of plants, all of which will be presented during a museum lesson on the matter. The classes are aimed to show the plant types growing in prehistory as well as the Middle Ages. The participants will also have a chance to learn about the historical importance and use of wood, which is forgotten in the present times.
Educational path “Nature and protected plant species on the “Royal Earthworks” hillfort” has been subsidized by Voivodeship Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management (WFOŚiGW) in Rzeszów.

OTOMANI-FÜZESABONY CULTURE – a great civilisation of the Bronze Age. In the eyes of the specialists in the field, the Otomani-Füzesabony Culture is a unique phenomenon of the Bronze Age. The level of the civilizational advancement of the culture is astonishing. Visible, and intriguing are its connections with the Balkan-Anatolian world. The people of the Otomani-Füzesabony culture have written an extremely interesting chapter of the history of the hillfort in Trzcinica. The defensive settlement discovered here, referred to by the archaeologists as the Carpathian Troy was a dynamically functioning, excellently organised cultural centre. The participants of the workshops will be able to learn the secrets of the settlements themselves and find out more about their creators.

ART OF ANCIENT MESOPOTAMIA AND EGIPT. Ziggurats and pyramides. Lamassu and mighty statues of pharaohs. These are only selected elements of the oldest ancient civilisations of the Tigris-Euphrates river basin and the Nile River area. Classes, boasting a large number of photographs, are aimed to familiarise the participants with the most important monuments of ancient times in Mesopotamia and Egypt, which are admired up to the present day.

ART OF ANCIENT GREEKS AND ROMANS. The culture and art of Ancient Greece and Rome have made a tremendous impact on the development of the European civilisation. They were the source of inspiration for the generations to follow. The monuments created in ancient times are visited by millions of tourists every year, and the sculptures created hundreds of years ago are still considered the canon of beauty. The workshops will encompass an adventure through the subsequent stages of the development of Antique Greek and Roman art, complemented by information about the culture of the period.
TRZCINICA – CARPATHIAN TROY. The Carpathian Troy is a name that has become a part of the archaeological and historical landscape of Poland. There are mysteries over 4000 years old buried under the hill in Trzcinica. Well above 200 thousand artefacts discovered, the oldest fortified settlement dating back to 2100 B.C., the settlement of the trans-Carpathian Otomani-Füzesabony culture with its extraordinary civilisational level, from 1650-1350 B.C. Not to mention the astonishing defensive settlement from the early Middle Ages (770-1030 A.D.). All this made available to the public in the most modern archaeological open-air museum in Poland makes the sightseeing tour of the Carpathian Troy an amazing history lesson about the lives of our ancestors.

DOMESTICATING OF ANIMALS Besides plant cultivation, the domestication of animals is one of the most important turning points in the history of humanity. This moment is referred to as the Neolithic revolution. The workshops shed more light on this event, and with the sightseeing of the old breeds of animals in the Breeding Area, are a very interesting educational option.
